Pay it Forward “PIF” Living is a new not for profit organization that partners with individuals, local businesses and the Food Bank (Feeding America) to help feed homeless school children.

We use social events and parties to gather and assemble food items into PIF Snack Packs that are distributed to children in need through the Back-Pack Kids Program and local Food Banks, such as the Food Bank of Northern Nevada

My wife Lesslie and myself started the company in February 2010 with an initial goal to feed 1,000 local hungry children.  We have since far surpassed our goal and now plan to expand the program nationwide.

The Pay it Forward “PIF” concept begins with doing a favor for another person– without any expectation of being paid back.  The unconditional favors can be large or small.  As the fictional 12-year-old Trevor, in the movie “Pay it Forward” observes, “It doesn’t have to be a big thing. It can just seem that way, depending who you do it for.”

His idea: perform three important good deeds for others, asking them to pay it forward in their own way to three other people. Three becomes nine people touched by goodness. Nine multiplies to 27, then 81, 243, 729, then 2,187 and so on.  You can see how a few good deeds can quickly add up to thousands, that end up helping many.

We decided to adopt the Pay it Forward concept and apply it to our company mission.  Once people participate in a PIF Event and see how fun and rewarding it is, they are encouraged to “Pay it Forward” and sponsor their own PIF events.

Hopefully, one event leads to others, and they continue on and on.  Soon, we will have hundreds of PIF Events and thousands more Snack Packs to help feed the many hungry children throughout the country.
